Dr Richard "Dixie" D. Davis

December 28, 1925 ~ February 23, 2023 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Tribute

Dr. Richard DeWitt Davis passed away peacefully at The Oaks at Northpointe on February 23, 2023 at the age of 97. He was born on December 28, 1925, the son of Dr. Francis Ward Davis and Nelle DeWitt Davis of Upper Arlington, Ohio.

Richard, known to his friends as “Dixie”, attended Upper Arlington High School in the Class of 1943. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy in WW II. Upon returning from the war, he attended The Ohio State University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. There, he met his wife to be, Barbara. They married in 1949. Following Medical School at OSU, they moved to Zanesville in 1953. He joined the Family Practice of Dr. James McCormick before opening his own office at Northside Medical, caring for generations of families and delivering hundreds of their babies. He was also an Anesthesiologist for his 40 years in practice. They were members of Forest Avenue Presbyterian Church. Following retirement, they spent many years at their beach cottage in the panhandle of Florida, where he and Barbara sat on the back porch each night, watching the beautiful sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. They celebrated 67 years together, before Barbara’s death in 2017. Dixie loved to hunt, golf and visit with friends and family. He enjoyed taking photographs and always had a camera hanging around his neck, never leaving home without it. He was an avid fisherman and loved the Georgian Bay where he founded “Camp Fugarwi”, a fishing club and cabin in Ontario, Canada.

He is survived by his children, Susan Anderson (Doug), Dr. Dean Davis (Corrina) and William Davis; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His youngest son, Matt, passed away in 2016.

One of his favorite songs was “I Did it My Way” by Frank Sinatra. And that is how he lived his life…his way.
